Welcome to BSA Troop 636!

Alpine District, Chief Seattle Council

On behalf of our entire Scouting family, we would like to welcome to Troop 636. We are excited to have each of you join to share in our Troop’s adventure! We have a lot of information to share as we help you family learn about the Boy Scouts and the Patrol Method

Troop 636 was established in 1974, one of the oldest Troops in the area. We are a mid-sized troop with an array of scout-related activities including a variety of local and High Adventure outings, Summer camp, rank advancement and merit badge classes. Troop 636 has a long history of community service through our regular service projects, Eagle Scout projects, our work with community non-profits and the City of Issaquah. The Scouts of Troop 636 camp year round, they go on high adventure trips such as canoeing, backpacking, hiking, and whitewater rafting; but most of all, they have FUN – and we have been doing it almost 50 years

Troop 636 is a “Scout Led Troop”; this means that the Scouts, not the adults, are the leaders – they decide what trips they are going to take, elect their own leaders, and make their own decisions about how the troop is run, based on a predetermined structure. Each scout is part of a patrol, a smaller group of scouts that work together within the Troop.

For parents, your role is changing.  The adults are there to make sure that everything is safe and to provide training and mentoring as necessary.  While the scouts provide leadership, there are still many ways for adults to be involved in the troop.  Adults help scouts to plan an event as an “adult focal” and with merit badges as a merit badge counselor Merit Badge Counselor registration page.  Positions on the troop’s parent Committee are also available. Our New Member Coordinator, Kristi Donley and other parents help families with the transition and the older scouts will be helping scouts.

Thank you for joining our troop. We realize that you are trusting us to provide a first-class scouting opportunity. We won’t let you down.

Yours in Scouting,
